Capstone has implemented a series of Mining advanced process control projects for this large multi-national mining company. Mining presents unique challenges due to the inherent variability of the process and feed-stock.
Capstone successfully completed the implementation and provided maintenance for Mining Advanced Control systems for several iron ore concentrator and pelletizing process units. This included Balling, Pellet Induration, and AG Mills.
The Solution
Capstone’s engineers worked closely with the customer to understand their process and design an automated process control solution. The solution was rapidly deployed by configuring industry leading Advanced Process Control software. Key features of the solution include: automated estimation of the pellet physical properties, multi-variable predictive constraint control, and optimization algorithms.
The Results
Each phase of the project has delivered tangible business results and has helped this client to reduce operating costs through standardization and automation of processes. Specific benefits achieved include: 5% reduction in Fuel Consumption, and 3% Balling/Induration Increase.
