Capstone has implemented a series of Mining advanced process control projects for this large multi-national mining company. Mining presents unique challenges due to the inherent variability of the process and feedstock.
Capstone completed the implementation and provided maintenance for Mining Advanced Control systems for several iron ore concentrator and pelletizing process units. This included Balling, Pellet Induration, and AG Mills.
The Solution
Capstone’s engineers worked closely with the customer to understand their process and design an automated process control solution. The solution was rapidly deployed by configuring industry-leading Advanced Process Control software. Key features of the solution include automatic estimation of the pellet’s physical properties, multi-variable predictive constraint control, and optimization algorithms.
The Results
Each phase of the project has delivered tangible business results and helped this client reduce operating costs through standardization and automation of processes. Specific benefits include a 5% reduction in Fuel Consumption and a 3% Balling/Induration Increase.
